CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Chapter 28

6-Comment on the way this chapter reminds the reader of earlier events in the novel.

1-Why does Jem say that Boo Radley must not be at home? What is ironic about this? (Is it true? Does he really mean it? Why might it be important for him and Scout that Boo should not be at home?)

2-Scout decides to keep her costume on while walking home. How does this affect her understanding of what happens on the way?

3-Why had Atticus not brought a chair for the man in the corner? Who might this stranger be?

Scout decides to keep her costume on coming home from the pagent because she was embarrassed. But when her and Jem were walking home in the dark they heard noises and they just assumed it was Cecil trying to scare them again. They then figured out it wasn't Cecil and they started to run. The person who was following them was acutully Bob Ewell and he wanted to kill Jem and Scout. If Scout wasn't wearing her costume she would have died because her costume protected her from being stabbed. So it was a good decision that Scout made to keep her costume on because it saved her life.

This reminds me of earlier in the book when Jem Scout and Dill talk about hot steams and the Radley house.

Jem says "Boo must not be at home. Listen." High above us in the darkness a solitary mocker poured out his repertoire in blissful unawareness of whose tree he sat in.

Atticus didn't bring a chair for the man in the corner because he was to worried about Jem and how he was doing. The stranger in the corner was the man who had saved Jem and Scout and brought Jem to the house.
