  1. How does Maycomb react to the news of Tom's death?
The people of Maycomb expected it. They thought it was typical of a black person to "cut and run". Some other people in Maycomb were dissapointed that Tom had died becuase they believe that Atticus could have freed him. This is how the people of Maycomb reacted to Tom's death.

  2. 4-Explain the contrast Scout draws between the court where Tom was tried and “the secret courts of men's hearts”. In what way are hearts like courts?

This is how hearts are like courts. Even though every person in the court knew Tom was inisant no one stepped up to stop his death sentance. Just because of Toms skin colour they clamed Tom was guilty. This made Scout think that whatever happend in the courts is the truth and acctaully the hearts of people are rotten. This is how hearts are like courts.

  4. Comment on the idea. that Tom's death was typical.

I think that people had said that Tom's death was typical because he was a black man who had gone to jail for supposedly rapping a girl and he tried to escape. When he was escaping the guards told him that if he didn't stop he would be shot. That's what I think about Tom's death being typical.
