CHAPTER EIGHT

  1. Chapter 8

Why does Scout quiz Atticus about his visit to the Radley house? How much does Atticus tell her?

What is the “near libel” which Jem puts in the front yard? How do Miss Maudie and Atticus react to it?

Why does Atticus save Miss Maudie's oak rocking chair?

When Atticus asks Scout about the blanket around her shoulders, what does Jem realize?

Explain what Atticus means by telling Jem not to let his discovery “inspire ” him to “further glory”? Is there any reason why Jem might now do as his father says?

  2. What is the “near libel” which Jem puts in the front yard? How do Miss Maudie and Atticus react to it?

The near libel is when Jem makes the snowman that is supposed to resemble Mr. Avery. Libel means to harm someone's reputation. Atticus tells Jem that he has committed a near libel because it looks very much alike to Mr. Avery and if other people seen the snowman it would ruin Mr. Averys reputation

  3. Why does Scout quiz Atticus about his visit to the Radley house? How much does Atticus tell her?
Scout had quizzed Atticus about the Radley place because Jem and Scout wanted to know how she died and if he had seen Mr. Authur Radley. Atticus told Scout that he did not see Mr. Authur Radley.

  4. Why does Atticus save Miss Maudie's oak rocking chair?

Atticus saves Miss Maudies oak rocking chair because it is very important to her. Miss Maudie's house is on fire and men are carrying out stuff that they could save and Atticus saves her oak rocking chair because thats the one thing she treasures the most. That's why Atticus saves Miss Maudie's oak rocking chair.

  6. ** This may not be the correct answer, but I tried**

When Atticus asks Scout about the blanket around her shoulders, what does Jem realize?

Jem realizes that Arthur Radley may have came out of the house and put the blanket on Scout without them noticing. It was not Mr. Nathan since he was helping the firemen with the matress, away from the Radley house. Arthur Radley is able to go outside of the house.
