CHAPTER FIVE

  1. Chapter 5
Describe Miss Maudie Atkinson? How typical is she of Maycomb's women? What do the children think of her?

What does Miss Maudie tell Scout about Boo? How does this compare with what Scout already believes?

Scout claims that “Dill could tell the biggest ones ” (lies) she ever heard. Why might Dill have told such lies?

What reasons does Atticus give for the children not to play the Boo Radley game? Do you think he is right? Why?

  2. Describe Miss Maudie Atkinson? How typical is she of Maycomb's women? What do the children think of her?

Miss Maudie Atkinson is different from most of the women in Maycomb because most of the women in Maycomb very strongly believe in god and go to church very frequintly Miss Maudie is not really like the other women that way. The children think of Miss Maudie Atkinson as trustworty because she never tells on them, caring because she willingly does stuff for them and mainly just a very good friend.

  5. Scout claims that “Dill could tell the biggest ones ” (lies) she ever heard. Why might Dill have told such lies?

Dill may have told some lies about his life back home. Dill had already lied about his father having a beard, so he may have been able to lie about other things about his life. Scout and Jem can't go to Dills house to see if his lies are true or not. This might be why Scout said "Dill could big ones".

  6. What does Miss Maudie tell scout about Boo? How does this compare with what Scout already believes?

Miss Maudie tells Scout that when Boo was a kid he was always soft spoken and kind. She also said that Boo and his family were foot washing baptist and very strongly believed in God. Thats is way different from what he already believes because he believes that Boo Radley i an evil old man who hides in his house and tries to stap his family with scissors. That is what Miss Maudie tells Scout about Boo.

  7. What reasons does Atticus give for the children not to play the Boo Radley game? Do you think he is right? Why?
When the kids where playing the game they didn't see that the Radleys are real people. Atticus was right because their game maybe hurtful to the people behind the Radley's windows.

  10. Atticus told the children not to play the Boo Radley game because the Radleys were real people with feelings and may be hurt by the play, especially because it isn't entirely true. I personally agree with Atticus because I wouldn't want people enacting what they think is my life just because I'm weird.
